WELCOME  and a big ‘HELLO’ to all newcomers to Warsaw.  We
would like to welcome you all and hope you will be very happy
here and make lots of new friends through Mums & Tots.

MUMS AND TOTS GENERAL INFO      

 

Mondays – All tots up to 3 years – The group meets at different houses between 1000 hrs-1200 hrs.

Tuesdays

*   Kangurek Play Centre in the Old Paper Mill, Konstancin from 10am As well as your children being able to run around and let off some steam, part of the morning is also dedicated to a singing circle and arts & crafts where they can show off their artistic talents!  (Coordinator: Lindsey Wislocki 847-8774 or 0608-477563).  The play centre charges 12zl for the morning (for Mums & Tots members) or you can purchase a discount card costing 100zl for 10 sessions. 

*   Stonoga Play Centre, ul. Zielona, Piaseczno from 10.30am. A break-away group of recent Mums and Tots graduates (three years plus) has started meeting at Stonoga from about 10.30-12.30 on Tuesdays.  8zl for the session.  Everyone welcome but due to the advanced age of the children the play is a bit more robust than at Kangurek.

*   Throughout the summer and if the weather is fine a group will also meet at playgrounds in and around Warsaw – check the schedule for this month’s venue.

*   Baby Music for babies up to 18 months (or so) every 2 weeks at 10am in different mum’s houses – see schedule.

Thursdays - Mini music takes place in different houses between 1000-1200 hrs on a voluntary basis.  New co-ordinator Cecelia Cienska when she gets back from holiday at the end of August – Phone 847 0295 or 0604 994840.

Fridays – For mums-to-be and babies under 18 months.  It takes place at different houses between 1000-1200 hrs.  (Coordinator: Carina Borin Percy - Phone 702 0895 or 0508 261768).

These are monthly socials to give us the chance

to get together without babies & children.

Tracey will e-mail everyone in due course about the next

Mums’ night out. The website will also keep you

Mums & Tots Group

 

Lindsey Wislocki has agreed to become our main co-ordinator and web-master. This is great news and will ensure that the group continues to run smoothly with all the various activities reporting back to her so that the website is kept up-to-date. All emails sent to postmaster@mumsandtots.com will arrive on her computer (soon!).

 

We are still looking for helpers and organizers though…

 

TUESDAY CRAFT & MUSIC CO-ORDINATOR:- This needs to be passed on by Lindsey. Any regular Kangurek attendee that can take this on would be very appreciated.

 

NEWSLETTER EDITOR:- We are looking for volunteer(s) to write the Mums & Tots Newsletter.  This job is currently shared between Bianca Morriss and Laura Spindler.  After a year we feel it is time to hand over and let others inject some new life into the newsletter!

 

GROUP TREASURER & SOCIAL EVENTS:- No proper title for this role yet but a person (or more than one person) to call and plan committee meetings, to plan social events (ie bazaar, art & wine evenings, first aid courses etc), to hold on to any cash that we have.

The Committee meeting will be held on Monday 13 Sep at Prew’s house. Please come along. If you are able to take on any of the above roles you will be even more welcome!


OTHER SOCIAL ORGANISATIONS

 

The International Women’s Group (IWG) – Both a social and a service organization, the IWG offers its members access to a variety of classes and tours as well as social and charity activities.  They provide members with a monthly newsletter and an annual Charity Bazaar.  If you would like to join, visit the 1st floor of the Marriott Hotel underneath the escalators) the office is open from 1000-1330 hrs on Wednesdays and Fridays, or call 630 7221.

 

American Friends of Warsaw (AFW) – Are you looking for a way to meet other families, an organization that has a good mix of activities for children as well as for grown-ups?  Then the AFW is for you!  There are monthly adult evening events, such as Oktoberfest and the Art & Wine evenings to meet other ex-pats and have some fun plus a children’s Christmas party.  The AFW sign up coffee morning will be held on Wednesday 8  September at Marilyn Wyatt’s house at 0930 hrs.  Her address is ul Dabrowskiego 48 and her tel no is 8452109

CULTURAL EVENTS

 

 

Through to the end of September, on Sundays at 12 & 4 pm, open air Chopin concerts, Łazienki Park, besides Chopin monument and at 11 & 3 at Chopin's childhood house in Zelazowa Wola.  Also at Zelazowa, music school students give open-air concerts every Saturday in July & August at 11am.

 

The first two months of the new season at the Polish National Opera are listed on their website (www.teatrwielki.pl).  Tickets available one month ahead of performances.

 

The season sees the return of the Polish opera (English subtitles) by Stanisław Moniuszko, The Haunted Manor (24 Sept & 29 Oct).  Other old favourites returning include Verdi’s La Traviata (28 Sept & 27 Oct) and, from the close of last season, Strauss’s Salome (9 Oct).  Under the heading of a Puccini Festival (it’s the 80th anniversary of his death), there’s another chance to see the visually stunning Madame Butterfly  (21 & 23 Oct); and, complete with 1990s World Cup Theme Tune, Turandot (24 & 26 Oct). The festival opens with a Polish premiere of a production of Tosca (15 & 17 Oct) and another premiere offered is Handel’s Agrippina (14 Oct) performed by the visiting company Combattimento Consort Amsterdam.  Finally, there’s the perennial run of the colourful children’s opera Mister Marimba by Marta Ptaszyńska (3 & 24 Oct, 4pm)

 

In ballet, returning productions include the luxurious Swan Lake (29 Sept & 8 Oct) and Zorba the Greek (3 Oct) (worth it for the final act alone when they get to that dance and then give it 5 encores), Shostakovich’s music in a story about Isadora Duncan visiting Russia Once Upon a Time (22 Oct) also returns, as does Tchaikovsky scored The Mystery of Life and Death (28 Oct). New pieces include Petipa’s La Bayadere, an Indian based Sanskrit drama, (25 Sept) and, from Vienna, a guest performance ballet special by Wiener Staatsoper (26 Sept)

 

The Puccini Festival also brings a concert of Puccini's Poems (16 Oct at 7) and a chamber concert on 18 Oct.

 

Finally, for the out of the ordinary, a guest performance from a Traditional Japanese Dance & Instrumental Group (16 & 17 Oct at 8). ■

 

 

BABY NEWS!

 

Congratulations to the following mums who have all given birth to beautiful babies over the summer.

Hana Ozarek-Stolcova’s baby, Jakub was born 4 weeks early on July 27th at 6.30am. He weighed 2.700kg and was 51cm in length.

Loretta Molloy gave birth to Sienna Catherine on August 11th at St Sophia hospital at 10.45pm. She weighed 3.430kgs (7.5 pnds) and was 56 cm in length (22 inches).

 

Agnieszka Darbey’s second daughter Megan arrived on August 24th. She was 3.130 kg and 52 cms

 

Oonagh’s baby boy ‘Gorgeous George’ arrived August 27th. 4.3 kg and 58 cm long.

 

Bente, who recently left Warsaw to live in Switzerland, had a baby daughter on August 24th.

We have just had 2 sofas done really nicely and incredibly quickly, without them being removed from the house and with very little disturbance.  Recommended by Laura Spindler.
